Recent Projects

Expansion of Telehealth Services - First Nations eHealth Centre of Excellence (CoE)Retained to facilitate and serve as project manager for the development of the CoE in two major streams: 1) project managing expansion of telehealth services to 51 First Nations communities in BC; and 2) helping to enhance the larger management capacity of the COE.
Feasibility Review of Investment into Workforce Housing for Underemployed Persons - ASPECTThe Association of Service Providers for Employability and Career Training (ASPECT) is a non-profit association of community-based trainers that collectively strive to prepare people for the world of work. ASPECT has more than 170 members with approximately 3,000 employees in over 100 communities throughout British Columbia. Its head office is located in the City of Victoria. As part of ASPECT’s ongoing goal of diversifying funding streams in order to contribute to the organization’s long term financial sustainability, ASPECT began investigating the possibility of investing in workforce housing to support underemployed persons in the Greater Victoria region live and work in the community. Queenswood was retained to assess and make recommendations on the strategic fit and financial feasibility of ASPECT investing in development of workforce housing, including administrative space for its head office operations. Analysis took into consideration a range of issues, including: expected demand for workforce housing and office space, potential partnerships and supports such as grants and the policy climate, community trend and the views of key stakeholders and subject matter experts. A key component of this review was to engage key stakeholders, including the CVRD, non-profit housing operators, elected officials, potential investment partners, and property development firms to assess the range of options and issues for evaluating the feasibility of ASPECT’s investment into workforce housing.
Program Review - Victoria Conservatory of MusicQueenswood Consulting Group assisted the Victoria Conservatory of Music (VCM) in re-visioning their VCM Presents! series of musical performance offerings by helping VCM strategize concert programming criteria, define roles and responsibilities for the management of VCM Presents!, and develop an action plan for further development of the program. The re-visioned concert series will share the experience of musical performance with broader audiences, further profile VCM’s excellence in musical education, and develop VCM donors by introducing concert series subscriptions.
Communications Planning - InterCultural AssociationThe InterCultural Association of Greater Victoria is a unique non-profit organization that combines arts and social services to address the needs of immigrants and to promote the embracing of cultural diversity within the Greater Victoria community. In 2009, the ICA reviewed its arts mandate and established a new five-year plan to focus on improving services, strengthening community relationships and further integrating programs. As part of that review and planning, the ICA identified a need to strengthen its process and capacity for undertaking communications. Queenswood Consulting Group was retained to assist the ICA to evaluate its communications capacity and identify strategies to achieve several objectives, including: shaping community opinion and influence public policy regarding immigration and multicultural issues; proactively engaging with ICA stakeholders, funders, clients and volunteers to strengthen relationships and increase support for the ICA; providing consistent, high quality experience for all clients to assist newcomers in being knowledgeable about and comfortable accessing community services and integration into life in Canada; increasing awareness of ICA and understanding of its services to broaden its support base; and, improving client and community partner focused information sharing to support service flow.
Strategic Planning - Beacon Community ServicesBeacon Community Services is a community-based, not-for-profit, social, employment, health, recreational, housing and volunteer services agency, offering a wide range of programs and services to thousands of clients in the Capital Regional District. Queenswood was retained to facilitate the development of goals, objectives and measures as part of the Beacon Community Services strategic planning process.
Governance and Planning - Mary Manning CentreThe Mary Manning Centre responds to children, youth and families affected by sexual abuse and other trauma, by providing counseling, victim services, prevention and education within the Greater Victoria community, and consultation throughout the province of British Columbia. Queenswood was retained to design and facilitate a governance session, supporting their transition from a policy Board to a customized model which is tailored to their organization’s needs, and later to design and facilitate a strategic planning process.
Governance and Strategic Planning - Helping Spirit LodgeHelping Spirit Lodge (HSL) is a Greater-Vancouver based society dedicated to assisting in the alleviation of family violence in Aboriginal communities by providing shelter, holistic educational programs, and support and advocacy primarily to Aboriginal people. Queenswood worked with HSL through a difficult time of transition to develop its initial five-year strategic plan. The process included working closely with the Board of Directors and senior staff to develop clear goals, strategies and measures, all tied to a re-designed vision, mission and values systems for the society. The work also included working with the Board to strengthen governance processes and procedures, and to link the development of governance policies to the society’s strategic priorities.
Workplace Learning and Organizational Needs Assessment - Victoria Read SocietyQueenswood Consulting Group assisted the Victoria READ Society in preparing a summary report of the Workplace Learning research project as well as four individual business Organizational Needs Assessment reports. Work included reviewing background materials, research findings and preliminary analysis as well as writing reports designed to respond to funder and employer interests. The summary report is now included in the National Adult Literacy Database library.
Public First Nations eHealth Consultations (Gathering Wisdom) – First Nations Health CouncilThe First Nations Health Council (FNHC) hosted its second Gathering Wisdom for a Shared Journey Annual Forum in October 2009, a conference and consultations event that brings together First Nations community health professionals, health services providers, government partner, and others. Queenswood provided public consultation and information gathering supports that directly suited the needs of First Nations community representatives to be able to voice unvoiced opinions in a safe forum, to see their issues and proposed solutions received by their peers, and to see their viewpoints acknowledged by their health plan leaders.
Capacity Building and Board of Directors Support – First Nations eHealth Centre of ExcellenceThe First Nations eHealth Center of Excellence (CoE) assists BC First Nations leverage eHealth as a critical and valuable component in the management and delivery of health services in First Nations communities. Queenswood provided core capacity building support and facilitated key meetings of Tripartite sponsors and of the Board of Directors. Our work paved the way for revised governance structure, structured advisory inputs on eHealth inputs from First Nations communities, and provided continuity in the development of First Nations eHealth operations through a period of governance transition.
